The Old Colony philosophy of keep it simple extends to this arena as well. We offer about a dozen stain colors and seven paint colors as our "stock" colors. In addition, we will create a custom stain or paint color from a color palette or any item that you would like us to color-match. The options are limitless!
Stain Each species of wood takes stain a little bit differently from the next. For example, a red stain such as our Cordovan color will be a very deep red on a cherry cabinet whereas it will have a pink hue on a maple cabinet. Therefore, it is important to see your stain color on your particular species of wood. That is why you will not find a color palette on this website. It would require that we show every stain color on every species of wood. We require that you see a physical sample of the combination of the color on the species of wood before ordering. In the manufacturing process, after the stain is applied to the cabinetry, a top coat of clear catalyzed varnish is applied to seal in the stain and protect the wood.
Old Colony has one of the premier painted cabinets in the business. Many small custom cabinet shops charge a lot of money to paint a cabinet. There is a tremendous amount of time required to prepare the wood to be painted. Then there is a zero margin of error when applying the paint to a cabinet. A poorly prepared cabinet or a poor paint job cannot be hidden. We use a catalyzed varnish paint that is sure to last for many years. It gives the cabinetry a beautiful smooth painted finish.
![]() Glazing Glazing can be added to both paint and stain. A glaze gives the door an "aged" look. Old Colony uses a wiping glaze technique where the glaze is wiped on and then wiped off leaving the glaze in the notches and crevasses of the doors and drawers. This darkens the entire cabinet by a shade or two depending on the color of the glaze. |
